GTN = Garmin Touch Series

Notes

General Features

  • When entering a frequency the "Find" button opens options for nearest, most recent, flight plan points, etc.
  • In the "Direct to" screen press the knob twice to select and activate the direct
  • Direct to contains a button for "nearest"

Frequencies

  • To switch between COM and NAV on the 650: press shortly the bottom right knob
  • To activate the standby frequency: press and hold the bottom right knob
  • To activate the emergency frequency: press and hold the upper left knob
  • When entering a frequency there are two buttons: "enter" to select the frequency in the stand by field; and "XFER" to directly enter it as active
  • Whenever a frequency is shown on the screen (e.g. at an airport information screen) it can be pressed to be selected as standby frequency

Navigation and Map

  • To go to the default page: press and hold the home key. On the 650 it is the CDI page and has buttons to go to the map page, change CDI between VLOC and GPS and set the OBS
  • To set the CDI beween VLOC and GPS: press and hold home to go to the default page and use the CDI button
  • To set the OBS: press and hold home to go to the default page and use the OBS button
  • To get information on a point (e.g. elevation): touch the point on the map and look in the bottom center of the screen
  • To get information on a waypoint: touch it and press the "Waipoint Info" button. If there are multiple waypoints close to each other, there is a "Next" button to switch between them. This works similarly for airspaces
  • Recenter the map to the aircraft: touch the "Back" button
